2021-12-4, Johnston Preserve, Lyme, CT

On 2021-12-4, I visited Johnston Preserve, a new preserve in Lyme, Connecticut.  I made an interactive map with location numbers.  Here's a link to the interactive map: https://arcg.is/1ePurP .  I'll put in a static screenshot of the interactive map.

1.  There was a nice, new gravel parking lot here that might fit ten cars.  Note that the preserve is closed on weekdays during the period when hunting for deer with a shotgun is legal.  I don't like this policy.

2.  A nail-on blaze on the Fuchsia Trail.

10.  A rock outcropping.

9.  A nicely built stone wall.

8.  A posted map with a "you are here" mark at a junction where hikers could hike southerly into the Jewett Preserve.  My suggestion is that the map be placed so that people looking at the map are facing north and that there be a note on the map telling viewers that they are looking north.  I think that would make it easier for people to orient themselves.

6.  Another outcropping.

7.  The trails were very well tended.  This was one of the few blow-downs on the trails.

13.  One of the nail-on blazes on the White Trail.

Near 13.  A short, orange-blazed trail led to a look-out.

12.  Another view, this one directly from the White Trail.

11.  An American beech tree.

5.  One of the nail-on blazes on the Yellow Trail.

4.  A short, blue-blazed trail led to Lyme's highest point.

4.  One of the blazes on the short, blue-blazed trail.

3.  A rock outcropping on the Fuchsia Trail.
