2021-11-9, Cockaponset State Forest Roads, Haddam, Chester, Deep River, CT

On 2021-11-9, I explored, on a bicycle, roads in or near Cockaponset State Forest in Haddam, Chester and Deep River, Connecticut.  I made an interactive map of my trip.  My GPS track is shown in pink and my GPS Waypoints are shown with three-digit numbers.  This is a link to the interactive map: https://arcg.is/1biTvj0 .  Here's a static screenshot of the interactive map.

I parked in a Commuter Parking Lot.

001.  Where I first rode onto a gravel road.

002.  I turned onto another gravel road.

003.  Another gravel road.

004.  I turned onto a quiet, paved road so I could go back to the Commuter Parking Lot to pick up my phone which I had inadvertently left in my car.

005.  I followed a gravel road to this open area.

006.  The gravel road to the open area was a little rough.

007.  The thoroughfare to the south seemed to be more of a trail than a road, so I didn't ride on it.

008.  A smooth, gravel road.

009.  This thoroughfare, not open to vehicles, seemed to be worth exploring.

010.  I didn't feel secure riding on this thoroughfare so I turned around.

011.  A view from a smooth, gravel road.

012.  I turned westerly onto another smooth, gravel road.

013.  A view of another marsh.

014.  I turned around where the gravel road became paved.

015.  I road onto pavement from gravel here as I went southerly.

016.  A stream as seen from a paved road.

017.  A view of Pattaconk Reservoir.

018.  I road onto a paved road that was closed to vehicles.  Although the road was paved, it was fairly rough.

019.  A view from the rough paved road.

020.  I am now on a smooth, paved road that was open to vehicles.

021.  According to the Department of Transportation Town of Chester map, there is a public, unpaved road that runs between the barn and the garage in this picture.  I didn't try to ride on the unpaved road.

021.  Here's a screenshot of part of the DOT map showing where 021 was.

022.  This was a formerly paved road, still open to vehicles.  The road was rough, but not too rough to make it uncomfortable for me to ride.

023.  There were several of these pools which weren't too hard to ride around.

024.  I turned around where the road split.  This was the split to the southeast.

025.  This was the split to the southwest.

026.  This road looked ride-able.

027.  I though this was a Civilian Conservation Corps fire pool.

I recorded 26.04 miles.  My moving average was 7.2 miles per hour.
