2021-11-16, Appalachian Mountain Club Nepaug Forest Hike, New Hartford, CT

On 2021-11-16, I was one of about ten hikers on an Appalachian Mountain Club hike in Nepaug State Forest in New Hartford, CT.  Shirley McCunn was the leader.  I made an interactive map of the course that Shirley took us on.  Here's the link to the interactive map: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38027522 .  Below should appear a static screenshot of the interactive map.

Here's a photo taken by out hike leader at the Romeyn A. Spare Lookout.  This was at the 3.59 mile mark on the route.

Romeyn Spare was one of the people who designed the Tunxis Trail for Connecticut Forest and Park Association.  Romeyn Spare, along with Perry N. Deming, is credited with drawing the 1955 map of the southern part of the Tunxis Trail that you can see at this web address: http://emuseum.chs.org/emuseum/objects/16062/tunxis-trail?ctx=94efe29a5bd0c9c9ab19525c8a6ac7d67cf29901&idx=0# .  Here's a screenshot of part of the Spare -Deming map.  Apparently, the trail to Romeyn Spare Lookout did not exist in 1955.

Tipping Rock, at the 4.85 mile mark on the 2021-11-16 course.  I took this picture on 2021-11-6.  Legend has it that this rock used to tip.  On 2021-11-16, I unsuccessfully tried to get people to see if we could get the rock to tip again.

Garnets in Tipping Rock.

Rocks at the 5.01 mile mark.  I took this picture on November 6, 2021.

At the 5.08 mile mark, we could see this rock overhang to the left of the trail.  I also took this picture on November 6.

At the 6.8 mile mark, I ventured out onto some rocks in the Farmington River.  When the river is lower, you can walk out maybe fifty feet on rocks without getting wet.
