2021-6-6, Nonnewaug Falls, Woodbury, CT
On 2021-6-6, I visited Nonnewaug Falls in Woodbury, CT. I made an interactive map with location numbers that I will refer to. Here's a link to the interactive map: https://arcg.is/1jbu1W . Below is a static screenshot of the interactive map.
1. The gravel parking lot I parked in. I was the only car when I pulled in at around 11:10 AM, but, by the time I left at about 12:30 PM, there were about five vehicles including what seemed to be a van from a girls' boarding school.
2. On my way to the falls, I took a picture of the flower you should see below. I believe the plant is Blue Toadflax, Nuttallanthus canadensis.
3. On my way back from the falls, I photographed this meadow scene.
4. At a sunny spot near the falls, I photographed what I think is Red Clover, Trifolium pratense.
4. The falls is on a tributary to the Nonnewaug River. The tributary doesn't actually have much water in it. This is above the falls.
4. Looking upstream from above the falls.
5. Above Nonnewaug Falls.
4. Below Nonnewaug Falls. There was a bit of a scramble down a steep bank to get below Nonnewaug Falls.
4. David Reik below Nonnewaug Falls.
4. Nonnewaug Falls from southern side of the brook where there is a network of ATV trails that I didn't completely explore..
5. I think this may be a particularly good year for pink lady's slippers.
6. This is as close as I got to another waterfall. I was above the falls, on the southern side of the brook.
Near 6. Interesting outcropping.
