2020-7-8, Yale Nature Preserve, New Haven, CT
On 2020-7-8, I began an exploration of the Yale Nature Preserve.
2. Here, I was on an old road. I could see the remains of culverts, and gravel which included a lot of slag.
3. It looks like professionals have been maintaining this old road.
4. This looks like an entryway especially designed to permit pedestrians and bikes to enter. I saw no "No Trespassing" signs, but also no signs saying that this was a preserve that the public was invited to enjoy.
1. Some tentative blazing along this trail which ran along a raised mound.
In this screenshot from https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/draw/ , my track is shown in pink. An earlier explorer's track is shown in red. The background is a printed USGS map. Note that we both followed an unpaved road shown on the USGS map.
Here's a screenshot from an interactive map showing where my pictures were taken.
Here's a link to the interactive map: http://arcg.is/1OL1L . I hope to get to Yale Nature Preserve (or is it Yale Natural Preserve?) and map the whole preserve. I only got a about a third of the way into it.
AMENDMENT: I went back to the Yale Nature Preserve on 2020-7-9. Here's the link to my report: https://davidreikphotos.blogspot.com/2020/07/2020-7-9-yale-nature-preserve-new-haven.html .
