2020-7-1, Salmon River Trail, Colchester, CT

On 2020-7-1, I hiked the Connecticut Forest and Park Association Salmon River Trail and Day Pond Brook Falls Spur Trail.  Here's a link to an interactive map showing where I recorded GPS Waypoints on the seven-mile hike:

Here's a screenshot of the entire area I hiked:

Here's a screenshot of the area of the map near Day Brook Falls.

Waypoint 002.  A new bridge.

Waypoint 003.  The upper section of Day Pond Brook Falls.

Waypoint 004. The lower section of Day Pond Brook Falls.

Waypoint 005.  A dry millrace leads from a breached dam to here, where there must have been a mill wheel at one time, maybe 1800.

Waypoint 006.  An old cellar hole, also from around 1800?

Waypoint 007.  This bridge is called the Olga Korbut bridge because of the gymnastic ability required to cross it.

Waypoint 008.  A fresh blowdown with multiple branches.

Waypoint 009.  Another new bridge which seems to be a larger version of the bridge at Waypoint 002.  The similarities in style between the two bridges leads me to guess that they were both created by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, rather than Connecticut Forest and Park Association.

Waypoint 010.  I think this is American Wintergreen, Pyrola americana.
